EDC Investors and Board Members lead initiatives through the following committees:
 

Economic Development

In 2017, the committee has several efforts underway to retain, expand and attract companies and talent in the region. Committee projects for the year include development of strategies for approaching local conferences, protecting San Diego’s military assets, attracting and retaining local talent, and creating a stronger regional platform for inclusive economic development. All projects are volunteer-led, significantly supported by EDC staff:

 

Infrastructure Issues Forum

Monthly briefings on infrastructure impacting regional economic development. Join more than 20 investors for informative presentations related to transportation, significant developments and projects, utilities and other regional assets.

Global Competitiveness Council (GCC)

A group of senior business, academic, government and civic partners overseeing World Trade Center San Diego, implementation of the Go Global regional trade and investment initiative. GCC advises on WTC San Diego programming, help to generate public support, financial resources and coordination mechanisms for the broader initiative; and issue periodic trade and investment policy recommendations on behalf of the region.

 

Research Advisory Committees

EDC produces a variety of research products including in study sector economic impact reports. We engage volunteers to form advisory committees comprised of sector experts to guide each study. In 2016, EDC will release sector reports on Software, Cybersecurity, Robotics, CleanTech and Water Technology.

Governance

The Committee is responsible for ongoing review and recommendations to enhance the quality of the Board of Directors, governance and annual audit oversight.

Leadership Spheres

EDC unites business and civic leaders around strategies to enhance our economic competitiveness.

  • Chairman’s Competitiveness Council
    EDC, San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce and CONNECT, along with other partner trade organizations, convened a coalition of senior business leaders from their board of directors and key contributors to focus on the global competitiveness of the region in the four key economic drivers — military, innovation, tourism and local.

  • Strategic Roundtable
    Strategic Roundtable taps into the collective experience and influence of the region’s retired executives and former public officials. Its purpose is to align these longtime civic entrepreneurs around opportunities to improve San Diego. Roundtable meets monthly to lend its expertise to regional challenges and opportunities.
