Turkey-based Elsis Electronics establishes US entity in San Diego

California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) received an inbound request from a Turkey-based electrical/electronic manufacturer ELSIS Electronic Systems, which was looking to establish a presence in the U.S.
After meeting with executives, GO-Biz learned the company was deciding between San Diego and Seattle. World Trade Center (WTC) San Diego met with the company’s executives and provided research and data on the region’s competitiveness. The company decided in August 2018 that it would open its U.S. subsidiary in San Diego.

Problem
Turkey-based ELSIS Electronic Systems was looking to establish a U.S. entity on the West Coast. WTC San Diego wanted to make a case for San Diego over Seattle.
EDC Solution
In order to make the case for San Diego, WTC San Diego provided comprehensive information on workforce, tax structure, and main industries. ELSIS also needed details on import regulations and trade agreements between the U.S. and Turkey; WTC San Diego also provided a list of vetted service providers to make the process of setting up a U.S. entity seamless.
Results
WTC San Diego’s comprehensive research and analysis ultimately helped convince executives that San Diego was a good home for ELSIS’ U.S. operations. In August 2018, the Majority shareholders of ELSIS announced they would establish Poweration, Inc.
In February 2019, Poweration opened its 1,700 Sq ft facility in Poway and plans to hire up to 15 high-wage jobs over the next one to three years. Poweration also contracted with Procopio for legal services, per EDC’s recommendation.
