Right Recovery Town Hall: Leveraging big buyers for small business

EDC is convening a series of “Right Recovery Town Halls” that explore employer-led, market-driven best practices for creating skilled talent, quality jobs, and thriving households. The first of these virtual town halls will focus on leveraging large buyers to preserve and create quality small business jobs. EDC will release preliminary results of the data we have collected, as well as recommendations on how our region can collaborate to grow the pool of small and diverse business vendors and build efficiency and resilience in our regional supply chains.

We’ll hear from a panel of leadership from regional anchor institutions discussing their own goals and best practices:

• Jane Finley – SVP and Area Manager for Kaiser Permanente San Diego
• Christy Ihrig – Vice President, Operations Support for SDG&E
• Capt. Mike Oestereicher – Commanding Officer for Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest

We’ll also hear from:

• EDC Board Chair Julian Parra about how Anchor Institutions can help the region meet our goal to create 50,000 new quality jobs within small businesses by 2030
• City of San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria on why this is a priority for him as Mayor of the second largest city in California
• EDC Director of Research Eduardo Velasquez on the results of a new EDC study quantifying the potential impact of big buyers procuring locally
